45-year-old Thomas Goodman of Providence, Rhode Island, recently received a sentence far beyond what anyone anticipated. His crime was so heinous that it received international attention. A serial admitted predator, Goodman was convicted of possession of child pornography, as well as sexually assaulting children and even sexually assaulting a newborn.
The judge handed down a hefty sentence, giving Goodman a whopping 260 years in prison for his crimes. Read on to learn more about how Goodman was caught and his shock at receiving such a long sentence.
Goodman began sexually assaulting children and sexually assaulting a newborn many years ago, traumatizing them for life in the process. He sexually assaulted two girls for over six years. He also filmed them and created child pornography while he committed sex crimes.
Just as disturbing, Goodman sexually assaulted a newborn baby, beginning when she was only three months old. He continued the molestation until the baby was 18 months old. He even went as far as to share images and videos online of the vicious assaults. It’s currently unknown as to whether or not Goodman assaulted other children as well, although serial predators often have a number of victims.
Goodman’s crimes were discovered when his phone was confiscated at work. After his supervisor saw the child pornography, he contacted the authorities, who began an investigation.
Goodman’s lawyer asked for just 22 years in prison, citing his client’s own history of sexual abuse as a child. But the judge held Goodman fully accountable. Goodman pled guilty and was recently sentenced to 260 total years in prison.
Goodman’s charges included possession of child pornography, for which he received 20 years in prison. He also pled guilty to eight counts of the sexual exploitation of children. He received a 30-year sentence for each of these charges for the ultimate total of 260 years.
While he knew he’d be serving some time, Goodman was shocked by the lengthy sentence. He fainted in court when the verdict was announced and had to be revived by a medical team.
